Teaching Artist Institute
Hawai'i Based Arts Integration, Social & Emotional Learning and Learning for Liberation
This Institute will support Teaching Artists in creating lesson plans that focus on supporting students social & emotional learning through the arts, while centering their work in our home of Hawai'i.
Four full modules to prepare teaching artists to strengthen their skills that take place over the course of two weeks. Modules will take place over the course of multiple-day windows of time (both synchronous and asynchronous) and will focus on the theme of “Honoring Our Gifts: Hawai'i Based Arts Integration, Social & Emotional Learning and Learning for Liberation” This overarching theme is grounded in the bilingual book Nā Pōmaikaʻi o nā Iʻa (The Fish and their Gifts) by Joshua Kaiponohea Stender. We will also include training on 1) Culturally Responsive Social & Emotional Learning (SEL) 2) HIDOE-led Nā Hopena Aʻo or HĀ initiatives and 3) Professionalization of Teaching Artists.
